TDY can be a mine field if not properly navigated. Your options may be limited if not completely chosen for you depending on your orders and timing with on post accommodations. As far as we understand, if there is room on post for you... on post is where you will be. All to be guests are required to obtain a "Statement of Non Availability" from their CTO or issuing travel office. TDY is best offered as packages to 2+ persons each traveling on TDY orders. While a single traveling soldier may enjoy the benefits of a small room and daily pick up after me service, there is no other comfort and freedom than that of your own homestead... even if its just temporary. TDY properties can be as small as a 1,200sft 3BR 2BA up to 3,000sqft 5BR 4BA. 

PCS at 6+ months makes for a budget with limitations. Most local property owners desire a 1 year commitment to rent their homes at going market rates and find a 6 month contract just not worth their time. BAH appears to be very close to market rates but does not include an upfront security deposit, utility deposits and utilities themselves... which can ultimately mean another couple thousand dollars out of pocket added to your PCS moving out of pocket expenses.

We have identified several extended stay affiliates who welcome short and long term PCS that offer an all inclusive (furnished rooms, all utilities, CATV, kitchen) properties.
